An interview with Joachim Moritz
Austrian paddler Joachim Moritz has added his name to the entry list of the legendary Budejovice-Praha 2018 race. He has become one of the two international athletes registered for the 35th edition. The 45 year-old Kepler University Hospital engineer has been a board member of the oldest Austrian canoe club – KRV Schnecke Linz.
“I used to paddle back in the ‘90s with my fastest tour on the Danube: Linz-Passau-Linz, 180 km in 19 hours and K2 mix in 21,5 hours”, Joachim explained his paddling long distance past. “Then I started climbing and in 2006 I climbed 8035m Gasherbrum II”, he added about his endurance. “In 2014 I came as a spectator to Krumlovsky maraton and afterwords I started to train to compete in 2015. Last year we came 8th in K2 category”, he said.
Joachim admits he does not know the river. “My goal is to achieve a good result but I have no target limit. I am looking forward to paddle through Tyn nad Vltavou where I participated in a sprint regatta in 1988.”
